This home in the private Rapp Farm neighborhood of North Oaks is situated to take full advantage of the wooded conservation area that lies behind it. But it’s hard to say which views are more beautiful—those looking outside or the ones within.

Builder Tom Budzynski of TJB Homes, Inc. created an open floor plan that lets Mother Nature play a starring role in the overall look and feel of the 5,235-square-foot home. From the bright and airy kitchen and expansive great room to the kick-your-shoes-off three-season porch, it’s impossible to walk through the house without taking in what’s going on outside.

The soothing master suite, which features a contemporary bed-and-breakfast fireplace and a rounded reading nook, feels like a lavish tree-house hideaway with its almost floor-to-ceiling windows. The adjoining bath is a mix of glass, tile, and wood that plays to the natural elements outdoors.

The open kitchen and granite-topped island offer plenty of space for cooking and congregating.

On the lower level, Budzynski created a virtual playground for kids and adults alike with dual bars, a sauna, and an exercise room. This entertainment haven features multiple flat-screen TVs, a stylish dartboard, and a custom wine cellar to accommodate a variety of tastes and interests. The floor of the wine cellar was crafted from the wood of wine casks, the markings of which can still be read.

With 35 years of design-build experience, Budzynski says he knows what homeowners want, and this home is a culmination of what he has learned over the years. “They want that ‘wow’ feeling,” he says.

“The inspiration for this house was definitely the view,” he says. “We made full use of the site and views out the back,” he says. “As you walk in the front door, the whole backyard opens up.”

Situated on a cul-de-sac overlooking a wooded conservation area, this home-built in the private Rapp Farm neighborhood of North Oaks-brings a little bit of country ambiance to city life.

It's not unusual to look out the expansive great room window and see a deer roaming out back, part of the appeal of this site. Future homeowners will also appreciate the green spaces, miles of groomed walking/biking trails, community clubhouse and pool, and location in the high-performing Mounds View school district.

The home, built by TJB Homes, is open, airy, and bright. The main level includes a formal dining room, butler's area, den, kitchen with high-end appliances and plenty of room for congregating, mudroom off the garage, and three-season porch with a fireplace.

The angled corner stairway, off to the side, leads up to bright bedrooms, a bonus room, laundry room/craft area, and master suite with a rounded sitting area, fireplace, and built-in cabinetry.

The lower level features radiant floor heating, an exercise room, wine cellar, sauna, guest room, playroom, and walkout to the secluded backyard.

One of the trademarks of TJB Homes is their commitment to designing and heating homes for less. Tom Budzynski, founder and owner, has actively studied cold climate housing techniques and understands how to choose the right insulation, keep heat in, keep moisture out, and avoid insulation gaps. His track record speaks for itself-he's been building super-tight homes since 1982, with a long list of satisfied customers who appreciate their lower heating bills.
